Sobriety, Part Eight

This was originally written and posted as a series on Instagram on November 5th, 2021

I’ve had many moments that tested me throughout this past year.

A glass of wine at my sister’s wedding.
A new beer that sounded amazing.
A seltzer after a yoga class.

Each time I felt it in my core, “this doesn’t feel good.” And every time, I left the drink on the table.

I’ve gained so much insight into myself in these moments and I feel stronger each time one of them rolls around. Now I feel like I’m at a point where I’m comfortable enough to share about my experiences.

The main reason I’m sharing is because I felt like if I had seen someone talking about sobriety in this way 2 or 3 years ago, I might’ve considered it sooner. And I wouldn’t have felt so alone.

If you choose to drink, that’s your choice. No judgement!

I have a sensitive nervous system, a low tolerance for booze, and I have finally learned that I am just better at life when I don’t drink.

But I am in no way judging anyone that chooses to. All of my friends drink. My boyfriend drinks. Hell, I’ve worked in the office of your favorite local brewery for the past 2 years. (Still trying to convince them to make bubble water 😅) I am around alcohol and people who drink every day. It’s all good!

My ultimate goal is to inspire and empower those who are sober curious.

If you are, I want you to know…

You can start over.
You can take control.
You can change the narrative.
You can break the habits that are holding you back.

And most importantly, the best things often live on the other side of fear.

You don’t have to have hit a rock bottom to decide that alcohol isn’t doing you any good. I’m hoping that by talking about this more, we can change the way we look at sobriety and how we view alcohol in our society.

While I’ve lost quite a few followers and I’m sure I’ve been muted by many, my inbox is blowing up. People ARE thinking and talking about this behind the scenes. So if you feel like you’re alone, you’re not.

I’m here to share more as it comes, and support anyone who is ready to take the first step.
